Our second meeting was much less awkward after our first. Everyone was excited to be there and it just fell into place.
Megan and Genesis got some snacks and settled in after school. Then we decided to dive right into the purpose of our day. We were going to think of projects that might be interesting to them. They had already taken the initiative to think of things that they might want to do and were excited about planning activities for people in their age group. Genesis' brother had a similar project when he was at La Paz before Covid. It was a teen center. Our area is rural and very often the teens are looking for something to do. Because this still is an issue they are excited to come up with activities that teenagers from all schools would want to join.
We also worked on our mission statement. We did the mission statement lesson.
The mission statement that they wrote is as follows:
To have a space designed and focused on teenagers.
Other ideas:
To create a fun experience for and space for teenagers.
To organize a space for teenagers where they can have fun and make good memories with friends.
To create a community for teenagers with organized activities and fun experiences.
To foster an environment where teens can make friends, memories and experience safe, organized, outdoor fun.
To connect teens with one another in a fun and community based space.
To launch a program that targets teens in hopes to accomplish a space where they can hang out and have fun.
To inspire and motivate teenagers to have new experiences and have fun with friends.
We had a ton of fun reading and analyzing the company mission statements that are on the lesson and then they spent some time with different mission statement words creating mission statements of their own.
We decided to cook dinner together next week and their homework was to find a recipe that they would both enjoy and to invite their parents to our meeting.
