Summer journal entry #1 (Activity)

In the video above you can see one of the dances that I learned during the intensive. I was a risk-taker by learning a new form of contemporary and putting 110% into the combo. During the summer I had the opportunity to attend a four day dance intensive. I took 4 classes a day and each class was an hour long making the experience 16 hours of dance. One of the learning outcomes that was involved in this experience was to demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken and to develop new skills in the process. This was involved because I took classes that I have never done before like ballroom, feme and musical theater. On top of that I took all the new classes at an advanced level. I was able to experience new things and although they challenged me and I wasn't perfect at them I still learned a lot from them. If I were to take the same classes in the future I would be able to apply the skills I learned to perform at a higher level in the classes. Another learning outcome that my experience connects to is demonstrating the skills and recognizing the benefits of working collaboratively. Through the experience I got to meet and dance with lots of new people. This forced me to go out of my comfort zone and collaborate with them through dance and I got to strengthen those skills. It also related to the project more differently because I took the intensives with my sister who is one of the classmates that is collaborating with me on the project. The last learning outcome that I applied in the experience was to show commitment and perseverance in the CAS experience. My project is going to be based around dance and by being able to take part of my summer to dedicate myself to dance shows my commitment to the sport/art. I can take what I learned in all the classes and use it to help teach the kids. I can take what I observed of how different studios function and how we can involve new dancers that don't normally dance at the studio into the movement. Overall I learned a lot and I experienced a lot of new things that will help me with my project in the future.
