Update: The Honey Bee Nest is a Diverse Community
The Honey Bee Nest is a Diverse Community
Many wild beings live in and around a Honey Bee nest and are essential to maintaining the health of the colony. Wax moths, are valuable to maintain nest hygiene. They not only ingest debris within the nest but their larvae help rub mites and other 'unwanteds' from the bodies of the bees. But too many wax moths will disrupt hygienic balance in the opposite direction and that's where the skink comes in!
Interestingly, beekeeping sites refer to wax moths as pests and offer tools to eradicate them. In Nature, these beings live together in harmony and for mutual benefit. When humans disrupt Nature's design, balance is lost.
