The month of december is always such a wonderful time because we see our friends and family and get to share this time of year filled with memories. Since I spent Christmas and the holidays on an Island, the experience was slightly different, but not in a bad way. Since there are limited resources on such a small island, we had to improvise what our holiday decorations consisted of. First off, there were no more christmas trees left on the island so we would have to come up with our own. My dad and I looked in the backyard and found something we thought would work. It looks weird at first but it ended up working out perfectly. The next step was to find out how we would make it hold up, so our friend told us we could use an old beach umbrella holder and since it was a bit rusty we used spray paint to repaint it. Once we put in the christmas tree into holder we needed to buy the decorations for it, and as I previously said there was limited supply of things on the island so we went to the one and only hardware store to buy the wrapping paper, christmas lights, ornaments, star and tree skirt. We were surprised to find everything so we bought it and went back to the house to start decorating. We started with the christmas lights, then the ornaments who we realized didn’t even have strings to hold them on the tree so we had to use string and work with that. We then put the skirt to cover the base of the tree, and finally the christmas star which made the tree so much prettier. Overall, I was pretty impressed by how it turned out, and went to show that if you are open minded and use your creative skills, you can pretty much create anything you put your mind to, so we got to spend our christmas with a bahamian style tree and I think it was the best way to spend it.
