Vacation Journal Entries: Creativity

This vacation I decided to take on a project that the landscaper who had been working at my house had given me the idea for. She suggested that I paint a mural on our backyard shed. I thought this was a cool idea, but I knew it would be challenging for me because painting is a skill that I haven’t gotten much of a chance to work on yet. However, once I got started, I really enjoyed it! I would wake up early every day and paint for a while, which turned out to be really peaceful and a nice way to start my day. I’ve never considered painting or art of any kind to be a strong suit of mine, which made this project a bit more difficult, but I recognized this as an opportunity for improvement. One of the most important things that I learned while creating this mural is that if you don’t have time to do something correctly, you won’t have time to do it over again. This helped me to take my time to do everything well instead of trying to do it as quickly as I can. It took me about a week to finish it, but I’m proud of it and it helped me to learn my strengths and areas for growth.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify strengths and areas for growth
  • Challenges were undertaken showing that new skills are learned
  • Plan and initiate an activity
