What makes me really exited about my project

Why is this project important to you? This project is important to me because dance is my passion. And what I love most about dance is creating and the expression and having a good time moving with other people. What we have done so far with the project and what we plan to do with it will allow me to share that passion and creativity with others and offer them a chance to learn. With the CEPIA kids especially I get to create a space for one hour a week to have fun with them and then at the end of the 6 weeks Ava, Alexa and I will help them perform what they have learned to their family and community. With the solo’s project I get to work one on one with one of the juniors and teach them their first solo which is a big opportunity for the both of us. I'm learning how to work with them and teach them something that they will love and feel comfortable performing. Both me and my soloist are super excited to work together on this project and make something amazing. I am extremely grateful to be able to offer dance opportunities to the people of my community and give them a chance to shine. Has it made you even more passionate about your project? If so, why? If not, why not? In the beginning the three of us knew that we wanted to base our project around dance. We did not know how but we planned on inspiring performing arts in the community. We started small by helping our dance studio ELEVATE put on their end of year show and choreographing dances for it. After that was over we spent the entire first part of the trimester brainstorming and coming up with more ways to bring dance to our community. The process of planning and communicating with the people who are involved in the project and working out all the details has made me extremely excited for the project. I am so ready to share my passion with the kids of CEPIA and the junior that I am teaching my solo to and the excitement has made me even more passionate about dance and about my project. What have you learned about this issue that you are solving that everyone should know? Throughout the project so far I have learned more about the people in my studio and in my community than I ever thought that I would. For me dance was something that I was dedicated to; it was my sport that I would work hard towards and expect everyone to do the same. The project has given me a different perspective on that. During COVID the arts in general struggled and I learned just how much people needed art to live. By working with new people and getting to know them I now see that inspiring art in the community is super important and the lack of it is a serious global issue. Overall the project has really changed my view on the meaning of dance and I'm so excited to continue with the project and be able to share that perspective with others.
