Bonus Path: Values Application

Clarifying our values enhances decision-making and boosts confidence; try these activities to better understand your values.

Using the values that you previously selected and ranked for this exercise, you will showcase these values through a collage or a short speech. (Speech instructions below)

Value Collage: create a visual representation of your chosen values using images, words, and symbols.

  • Gather Visual Material:
    • Look for visual material that resonates with your chosen values. This could include images from magazines, photographs, drawings, or even digital images found online.
    • Collect a variety of visuals that represent different aspects of your values. For example, if “creativity” is a value, you might collect images of people being creative or creative tools that you use when you are creating.
  • Select and Organize:
    • Review the visual material you’ve gathered and select the images that most strongly represent your values.
    • Experiment with different arrangements until you find a layout that feels visually appealing and meaningful to you.
  • Create the Collage:
    • Assemble the selected images onto a large sheet of paper, poster board, or digital canvas.
    • Consider adding text elements such as quotes, affirmations, or personal reflections that further reinforce your values.
  • Reflecting and Refining:
    • Step back and take in the completed collage as a whole.
    • Reflect on the connections between the images and the values they represent. What patterns or insights emerge?
  • Post your collage on this path and comment on another collage.
    • Display your value collage in a place where you’ll see it regularly, such as your workspace or bedroom.
    • Use it as a visual reminder of your core values and aspirations.
    • Reflect on how you can align your actions and decisions with the values depicted in the collage, guiding you toward a more purposeful and fulfilling life.

 

Value Speech:

  • Reflect on Personal Values:
    • Using the values that you chose in the last exercise, reflect on why they are important to you and how they show up in your life. .
  • Identify Key Experiences:
    • Think about significant moments or experiences in your life where your values were tested, or reaffirmed.
    • Choose one or two experiences that stand out to you as particularly meaningful or impactful in shaping who you are today.
  • Define Your Purpose:
    • Clarify the purpose of your speech. Are you aiming to share a personal story, inspire others, or advocate for a particular value?
    • Determine what message you want to convey and how your experiences illustrate the importance of values in action.
  • Structure Your Speech Around Your Experiences:
    • Start with a captivating introduction that hooks your audience and introduces the central theme of your speech.
    • Organize your speech into sections that correspond to different aspects of your chosen experiences and the values they represent.
  • Share your experiences authentically:
    • Share your personal experiences in an engaging manner, using descriptive language to bring them to life.
    • Reflect on the values that were present in each experience and how they influenced your thoughts, actions, and decisions.
  • Discuss the Learning and Growth:
    • Highlight the lessons you’ve learned from your experiences and how they have contributed to your personal development and character.
    • Discuss any obstacles or setbacks you encountered and how you overcame them with the support of your values.
  • Conclude with Impact:
    • Summarize the key insights or takeaways, reinforcing the significance of values in shaping our lives and relationships.
    • Consider ending with a call to action or challenge that encourages your audience to live their values authentically and courageously.
  • Post your speech to this path and comment on another values post.
