If your kids are working on a chicken coop/project already, turning it into a simple project page could make it possible for them to apply for a microgrant. It could also be a connection point with our group in Costa Rica (and possibly even Kenya) who have been doing chicken coop projects as well.

Our students are just getting their feet wet with chickens. I have a chicken coop at home and we are adding a few new chicks. I brought them in to show the students and they were smitten, they didn’t want them to leave. Since then they have been very interested chickens and in the idea of raising chickens. The coop was/is built out of cardboard. I was simply going to replace the soggy box the chicks were in after a day or two and a handful of students wanted to build them a home, something more than a simple box. I can see this going somewhere but I don’t know where? It would be amazing if we could actually build a coop and had somewhere for our community to raise chickens, but I am not where we could do that? Connecting to other students who are doing this and seeing how they are doing it would be awesome.

Totally— I wonder if the coolest thing at this point would just be to make a path like “what can you learn from chickens?” And use it as a place where kids can post simple observations and ideas as they interact and develop their awareness/relationship with the chickens. It would also allow the Costa Rica kids to post on the path sharing their experience without it needing to be at the same point of the process.

That’s such a great idea! The perfect way for students to record observations. I love this. I can already see how this is going to expand students and educators thinking/ideas exponentially. I am legitimately excited. I am still making lists and writing down my questions – but this platform is beautiful. This is what I have been waiting for but could not conceptualize. You guys are remarkable.

We would love to connect! I am part of the chicken coop project here in Costa Rica. We do have a project page but it is not complete yet. But we could post on a path more easily at the moment. Let me talk to my team!
