Human Rights introduction
- What struggles exist when trying to find a solution to human rights issues? These issues are so extensive and the only way to confront them is through changing culture, so I feel the main struggle in trying to find solutions is that the government can not just make a law and be finished, HR violations need to be confronted on a more direct front.
- What roles do empathy, tolerance, and open-mindedness play in human rights? In order for HR to become universal, people need to reach a new level of acceptance that each person is unique. Empathy, tolerance and open mindedness are vital in human rights for each person to be able to claim their rights.
- How do you plan to approach situations where your own beliefs may differ from those of others in the community? When my beliefs differ from others in the community I plan to approach the situation with an open mind, looking to learn about their perspective instead of trying to convince them of mine.
- Write down three things that you are grateful for in your community after learning about human rights. Reflect on how this knowledge has impacted your understanding of the world around you. I am grateful for my education, freedom to dress however I chose and to leave my house without need of a "chaperon". Whenever I learn about societies like the one in Afghanistan it allows me to realize how advanced socially the people in my community are. Despite latin america have its own cultural practices and predispositions, I feel Costa Rica especially has been able to adapt its culture in order to accept societal changes.
