The language of wild bees

For some years now I have been fascinated by the language of wild bees. I have been recording their sounds for sometime. In order to connect with wild colonies one has to understand their language. This is a video of Hope nest in the early morning. The high pitched piping sounds are made by the bees inside the colony. Bee sounds are made by the bees wings. Bees are deaf so they FEEL sound. The piping sounds are often intense in the early morning as the colony prepares itself for the day. The piping sounds signal a few things one of which would be to feed the young bees and another would be to signal to the scout bees to go out foraging....more on this to come.
