Short leave periods from my safari camp management work allowed me to test and prove the effectiveness of my pilot Mowana conservation plan. But this part time approach was insufficient to impact the wellbeing of large numbers of Mowanas due to the vastness of the region and accessibility often only by makoro.
Locating and pasting Mowanas with followup monitoring and re-pasting is a full time job. After careful consideration and with support from the Wonderment Cooperative, I have decided to leave my camp management career, and go toward a life in the wilderness actively saving Mowanas with the urgency they need. Continuing to teach the children in my community and building other connected programs will help me ensure the longterm care of Mowanas in this region.
