August 29, 2019 – Julie Creativity Summer Journal Entry

For my creativity project over the summer, I decided to enhance my baking skills. I made three different, new recipes that I knew would challenge me.

The first recipe I wanted to try was oreo balls.

For this recipe all I needed was oreos, cream cheese and chocolate chips. I started by crushing up the oreos and then mixing in the cream cheese.

I then formed the mixture into balls and put them in the freezer. I melted some chocolate chips and dipped the frozen balls into the melted chocolate and put them back in the freezer. After taking them back out of the freezer, they were done.

I chose this recipe to challenge me because I have never made any type of dessert ball before. I also knew that dipping the balls into the chocolate would be a challenge to make it a thin layer. From this recipe I learned that I need to work on my patience because I tried to dip the balls into the chocolate when they weren’t completely frozen yet, and they ended up falling apart so I had to put the rest back into the freezer. Overall, this recipe went well, but I could have spent more time making the balls look perfectly round.

The second recipe I decided to make was dog treats.

This recipe challenged me because I had never made dog treats from scratch before and I didn’t have a cookie cutter so I had to make the shapes by hand.

The third recipe I made was pineapple upside-down cake:

I was challenged for this recipe because I had never made pineapple upside-down cake before and because it was challenging to flip the huge cake without breaking it.

In conclusion, I undertook many challenges and I learned my level of baking skills and got to try some new recipes.
