I’ve always been a very active person, I used to dance, I play soccer, I used to swim and even play tennis, but running was definitely something I was not interested in. I mean what was the point of it? I could either twist my ankle or trip, plus it was very boring it’s just running you do nothing, and running in the morning? Yes, that was something I was definitely not interested in. Until today.
Today I went running in the morning with my fellow peer and CAS partner, Julie. We ran (and maybe sometimes walked) for a solid 40 minutes. Running, especially in the mornings was something I’ve always wanted to do but just simply didn’t have the energy to.
At first, I was a little skeptical on whether I should go running with Julie (and even considered canceling) and skip my valuable beauty sleep. But then I was like, why not? I don’t lose anything, in fact, I can gain experience (see where’s the perfect area in Flamingo for running) AND it’s obviously good for the body, in the end, I did, in fact, enjoy it and was very proud of myself. And am very thankful to Julie for motivating me to do it.
P.S. We also decided to help our community and whilst we were running we picked up trash we found along the way.
PPS. In addition, I went to a soccer camp from August 5th to August 8th and the first day we practiced with a girl’s soccer team from a university from Pasadena, California which taught us many different techniques.
Afterward, the next day we played against the International Christian Schools girls team and we tied 4-2 and later that evening we played against the Saint Anthony School where we tied 2-2 but won on penalties 4-3.
Learning Outcomes:
Planned and initiated an activity: Julie and I planned and eventually initiated this activity (running) and enjoyed it.
Developed new skills: I learned that I am good at running hills and basically upward terrains just that I’m not very motivated on perfecting that peculiar skill.
Identify strengths and areas for growth: While playing soccer I noticed that one of my strengths is definitely helping my team to find a strategy of attack in order to make the goals, and an area for growth that I need to work on is definitely on communicating with my team members whenever I’m going to take the ball and such things like that.
IB Learner Profile:
Risk-Taker: Even though I don’t consider myself a risk-taker I still tried something new and ended up liking it in the end.
Balanced: Even if it’s vacation and the one thing on my mind is to relax, I’ve decided to maintain myself balanced and work out so I’m not sedentary.
