More than motion intensive

This weekend from Friday October 21 to Sunday October 23 I attended a dance intensive in San Jose. This intensive brought professional dancers from the US to teach us a series of workshops each day. We danced anywhere from 3 to 6 hours during the day which made for a long active weekend. There were opportunities like a mock audition where we learned a dance performed by them and received feedback; And a video class where we learned choreography and then filmed something using what we learned. Each class was definitely challenging and forced me to step outside of my comfort zone. Most of the combos that they taught were fast paced and required us to learn choreography quickly. My strength as a dancer is my performance aspect and the ability to put my emotions into my dancing. Through this intensive I was able to learn exactly how to learn fast paced choreography while still performing and giving the combo my all. There is definitely a lot of room for growth in my dancing but it's these experiences that will make me a stronger dancer. I also believe that the greatest thing I was able to take away from this weekend was the connections I made with the teachers that taught us. I had the ability to differentiate myself from the other dancers in the room and was able to draw the teacher's attention. I also made sure to have a conversation with the teachers after class and thank them for the opportunity that they brought to Costa Rica. One of the teachers invited our studio to come where she teaches in California. Honestly this weekend was one of the best experiences of my life and I want to continue to have experiences like these to help me grow as a dancer.
