African Swamphen

Collective Name: Flock

they are common residents there don't migrate to anywhere they stay with us all year around. with other birds practicing monogamy this one practices a different behavior known as polyandry whereby a male mate with different females on their breeding season. this is being practiced due to the way they breed they breed in wetlands and some of this female doesn't succeed on incubating, doing this is to make sure that at least some will make it. they even practice cooperative breeding whereby they will buid a very big nest put their eggs in one nest and senior females incubate all the eggs and the rest will participate on racing the checks or hechlings.

their preferred habitat is parmenat flood plain, sometimes seasonal flood plains and in flouring water ponds. they have a very diverse diet they are primarily herbivores feeding on roots, tubers, lilies and seeds. but they can supplement their diet with small creatures like insects, fish and snails
