As a long-time supporter and board member, I’ve seen first-hand how the Tower Theatre represents far more than merely a place to watch films—it’s a cornerstone of independent thought and creativity and inclusivity in Salt Lake City. Independent film challenges us to see the world through new perspectives, which gives us an understanding of our shared humanity. The Tower’s transformation into a ‘Living Building’ is especially meaningful to me as a Utahn—it’s a model for how we can live and build in harmony with the valley’s environment, helping improve our air quality and modeling how we can each make a difference for future generations. The 9th and 9th neighborhood has always been one of Salt Lake’s most vibrant and community-driven areas, and the Tower sits at its heart. I have fond memories of discovering new voices and stories there, surrounded by neighbors and friends. I’m excited to see it reborn—not just as a theater, but as a living example of what’s possible when culture, sustainability, and community come together.
